Belated Happy Diwali!
1. I was the senior leader of the Indian National Congress and occupied several ministerial portfolios in the Government of India.

It is Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday today. He was very fond of children and his birthday is celebrated as children’s day.
Jawaharlal Nehru delivered a speech “Tryst with Destiny” to the Indian Constituent Assembly on the eve of India’s Independence at midnight on 14 August 1947. He was sworn in as the 1st prime minister of independent India on 15th August 1947.
This speech is considered to be one of the greatest speeches of all times. It captures the mood of the nation at the triumph of the 100-year non-violent Indian freedom struggle.
“Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity.”
Looking back at it today, it reminds us of the pledge to combine our energies to build a strong nation and cherish our Indian Identity.
Vishwakarma day is celebrated a day after Diwali (along with Govardhan Puja). It falls on the first day of Kartika Masa.
The day is celebrated to worship Lord Vishwakarma. Since the Puranic age, Vishwakarma has been known as the divine engineer and architect. It is said that He is one of the 14 precious things born from the Samudra Manthan. He is credited with Sthapatya Veda – the science of mechanics and architecture.
The festival is observed in factories and industrial areas. Workers worship their tools in His name and refrain from using the tools on this day. Workers pray for a better future, safe working conditions and success in their professions.

It is my 7th Diwali today.
On Diwali Lord Ram came back to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile after killing the demon king Ravana. We wear new clothes and pray to Lord Ganesha & Goddess Lakshmi. We should not burn crackers. We enjoy lots of sweets and decorate the house with beautiful flowers.
I will tell you the story of Ramayana through a short poem. I learnt it in class prep from our teacher Midhusmita ma’am.
